When 2 super villains destroyed Hal Jordan's home town Coast City, his life came crashing down. Imagine losing all your friends and neighbours overnight. Mongul and Cyborg Superman had used Coast City and turn the place into their battle ground against Superman and his allies. Green Lantern was Superman's last hope while the villains managed to subdues Superman's allies. Green Lantern and Superman finally stopped the villains' rampage but the city lays in ruins.

Green Lantern decided to ask the Guardians for help in to rebuild Coast City and to restore everyone there but was refused as they do not want to interfere. Hal decide that he had enough and want to gain the powers by entering the power battery where it supplies Green Lanterns OA's power. The Guardians sent in the Green Lantern Corps to stop him. Hal refuses to be denied the power and will not hesitate to attack even his friends. Being the greatest Green Lantern, defeating the Green Lantern Corps was not difficult and he gained the corps combined power rings. The Guardian even released Sinestro, Hal's senior and renegade Green Lantern to stop Hal. Hal Jordan merged with the Power Battery of OA, killed Sinestro and destroyed the Guardians. Hal Jordan was the greatest Green Lantern, gone rogue and successfully destroyed the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians. 

Having the ultimate power, Parallax, Hal Jordan's new identity wanted more than just to resurrect Coast City. He wanted to right all wrongs and to make the universe a perfect place for everyone. He journeyed into the time stream where he absorbed the remaining powers of the Anti-Monitor, a very powerful villain that almost destroy space and time years ago. Now Parallax posses chronic powers to control time and with this powers, he started ZERO HOUR.

ZERO HOUR being named as time are being erased from the past and from the future and ends when time strikes zero, all existence will be erased. Even with the combined might of Earth and allies from outer space and other dimensions, they are no match for Parallax. Parallax managed to complete Zero Hour and started his own creation. But a small group of heroes managed to slip into Parallax's timeless region where they battle Parallax to stop him acting GOD. Parallax was defeated dues to exhaustion of most of his powers to creation of a new universe. 

Parallax's quest for more power continues after Zero Hour. He attacks the current Green Lantern Kyle Rayner for his new power ring. Kyle's power ring has no yellow weakness and has no time limit usage. Given by a surviving Guardian Ganthet, Kyle is no match against Hal's experience in use OA's power and Parallax soon defeat Kyle. But not before his former JLA friends arrives, being summoned by Ganthet. Parallax waste no time against former friends. The JLA proved to be underpowered against Parallax and Hal Jordan received the last power ring from the fallen Green Lantern, Parallax is now revert back to his Green Lantern costumes. Now he has to face Superman, the last former friend challenged the battered Hal Jordan to a fight for the power ring. Superman is no match against powers from a Green Lantern's power ring. Ganthet said that Hal Jordan in his quest for power turn on all his friends do not deserves to wear the power ring. In return Ganthet will merge with Parallax. Guardians themselves are power batteries. Kyle Rayner got back his ring from Parallax. Ganthet merged with Parallax. Parallax has now a power battery within him, his power now triples when he first merge with OA's power battery.

Hal Jordan during Amalgam, received cosmic powers from the Silver Surfer in which he has enough power to resurrects life! He demonstrated his powers by restoring a dead planet for the Silver Surfer. He later resurrected Coast City but Silver Surfer's enemy Thanos destroyed it later in a fight for cosmic powers.

Parallax could starts another ZERO HOUR but it was not worth it. Now he hunts for the villains that destroyed his city, Mongul and Cyborg Superman. Mongul was killed by Neron. Parallax found the Cyborg Superman at the Wall at the edge of the universe. A fight soon began where Parallax creates the million people killed in Coast City where they ripped Cyborg Superman apart which later became cosmic energy and absorbed by Parallax. The last Green Lantern approaches Parallax that Earth is in danger from the Sun-Eater. A chance for Hal Jordan to become a hero again, he sacrificed himself when he used up all his powers to destroy the Sun-Eater.
